February

February in Northern Cyprus – Where Winter Is Forgotten In many countries, February feels like a transitional month. Too late for the holidays, too early for spring. But in Northern Cyprus, there is no such in-between phase. Here, February is a promise that has already come true. Twenty degrees. No coat needed. No rush. Just sunshine on your skin and a breeze that smells of flowers and the sea. A landscape awakening The winter rains have done their work. The fields have transformed into a tapestry of color. Red poppies open toward the sun. Purple cyclamens hide among the grass. Yellow flowers catch the light as if they want to hold onto it. You walk along narrow sandy paths. To the left, flowers stretch to the horizon; to the right, the contours of the Kyrenia Mountains stand majestically guarding the island. The mountains are rugged, almost dramatic, but in this soft February light, they look friendly. The sky is clear. Intensely blue. Every breath feels clean. Scents that linger It’s not just what you see, but what you smell. Warm earth. Wild herbs. A hint of salt from the sea, which is never far away. Sometimes you pause for a moment. Close your eyes. And listen. Birds fill the silence with their song. Not an overwhelming noise, but a natural chorus. The soft humming of insects begins again. Life returns—or perhaps it never really left here. The luxury of simplicity What makes February in Northern Cyprus so special isn’t just the weather. It’s the tranquility. The space. The feeling that everything slows down. You walk without a destination. You look without a plan. You enjoy without distraction. Perhaps that is the true richness of this place: that here you learn anew how simple happiness can be. Twenty degrees. Flowers beneath your feet. Mountains on the horizon. And you—exactly where you need to be. 🌸

March

March in Northern Cyprus – a scent you’ll never forget There’s something gentle about March in Northern Cyprus. Not spectacular, not loud. Just a quiet shift in the air. One morning, I suddenly noticed it: that scent. Sweet, fresh, almost as if spring had already announced its arrival. The orange trees were in full bloom. Tiny white flowers you almost overlook, but their scent is everywhere. When I walk past them, I automatically slow my pace. It’s a moment I don’t want to rush. Sometimes I pick a few blossoms. Not many. Just a handful that fits in my hand. I take them home, where the morning slowly continues. There, my little February ritual awaits. Black tea with orange blossom—my moment of the day I put the kettle on, as always. But in February, I do something extra. What I use 1 teaspoon loose black tea a few fresh orange blossoms 250 ml hot water sometimes a little honey How I make it I put the tea in the pot. I add the blossoms and gently press them between my fingers. Then I pour the hot water over them. Wait a moment, and the kitchen fills with the same scent as outside. The beauty of it is: the tea doesn’t just taste like tea. It tastes like that walk, like the trees, like February here. Sometimes I let a few flowers dry on the table. And every time I walk past them, they remind me of how special this month really is. Not because a lot happens, but precisely because everything is so quiet and smells amazing.
